Throughout 2008-2009 health service provider boards and senior decision makers gathered at LHIN organized dialogue sessions. During these sessions provider board members were asked how they could be best supported as health system governors. Of the many ideas heard, a common response included "create a website or portal where we can easily learn and share information about each others' organizations and how to enhance our local governance capabilities". Acting on this suggestion, the Central West LHIN explored what role it could play in meeting the need.
In collaboration with leading governance experts tng this pilot website was developed. It is designed as a member based collaborative sharing service and is being hosted and managed by a third party, not-for-profit organization called The Canadian Centre for Leadership and Human Values. The Central West LHIN is a participating member and has provided preliminary guidance to the site developers.
As suggested by provider board members, the site is designed to be self-sustaining and over time will be financially supported entirely by its participating health service provider boards and their members. In this way, value will be assured and no one organization will be burdened with the administrative tasks of building, managing and maintaining the site resources.
